New Milton recovers more with new Tong MRF

As part of continued business developments to increase revenue from recyclables, New Milton Sand and Ballast looked to Tong Engineering to supply a custom built MRF system to effectively sort its mixed waste stream.

Based near Lymington in Hampshire, New Milton predominantly sorts C&D and MSW waste. The new MRF system from Tong comprises of a heavy duty bulk waste hopper at the infeed, elevating the mixed waste to a vibrating deck screen to remove smaller waste materials, before the bulk of the waste passes through a large, fully enclosed 6-bay picking station. An overband magnet and air separation system also allows New Milton to successfully recover ferrous metals and light materials, ensuring  maximum value from the company’s waste stream.

“Our new MRF is streamlining our waste sorting processes whilst significantly increasing the amount of recyclables we recover. We’ve increased our revenue from recyclable waste, decreased our landfill taxes and we’re saving time and labour costs too,” says Darren Hazell of New Milton Sand and Ballast.
