Wyllie ‘picks’ the ideal solution

To further increase customer offering and meet rising demand for effective disposal services, Wyllie Waste Recycling made the decision to invest in a bespoke sorting and picking line from Tong Engineering.

Specialising in cost-effective, kerbside waste management services, the Perthshire business provides a complete disposal and recycling solution to companies across Central Scotland.

“Over the last five years, we have seen the demand for bulk recycling services soar, and now process hundreds of tonnes of office waste annually,” commented Jim Wyllie, Managing Director.

“We have always looked towards Tong Engineering to provide custom equipment for our plant, previously working together to develop our first recycling line – which was specifically designed to handle dry mix recyclable (DMR) products.

“However, following a devastating fire at our headquarters, our equipment was completely destroyed and we needed a new line to effectively sort and handle bulk waste.

“We therefore chose to completely redesign our layout and introduce a new line to effectively handle multiple waste products, to expand our customer offering and increase efficiencies.

“By working in partnership with Tong Engineering, we developed a brand new picking line, which could not only handle DMR products, but also glass and other common commercial waste products.

“The new line features a bulk infeed hopper feeding into a custom swan neck elevator, inspection belt and customised picking cabin. This is followed by a heavy-duty magnet and weigh shoot to effectively separate multiple waste types.

“Along with the new line, Tong Engineering supplied us with a new bag-splitter, to automatically open waste sacks and further minimise labour costs.

“We’ve been delighted with the whole package from Tong Engineering. As well as excellent customer service and custom design, the new equipment is dependable, manufactured to an excellent standard and requires little maintenance.”
